October update: boiler scrappage

SEAI announced an additional €2,000 for eligible fossil-fuel heating replacements. The wider package opens from 6 October; eligible heat-pump applications already underway receive the uplift automatically, subject to the scheme’s terms.

Insulation & windows

Attic insulation

€1,100–€2,000

Standard awards depend on property type. Qualifying first-time buyers and welfare recipients can receive €1,400–€2,500. Generally for homes built and occupied before 2011.

Cavity wall insulation

€700–€1,800

For eligible homes with suitable cavity walls. Higher awards of €900–€2,300 are available for qualifying welfare recipients.

Internal wall insulation

€1,500–€4,500

Dry lining grants vary by home type. Insulation grants generally require a home built and occupied before 2011.

External wall insulation

€3,000–€8,000

The external wrap grant varies by dwelling type. Some homes with previous cavity or internal insulation grants can qualify for a further wall measure.

Windows

€1,500–€4,000

For eligible pre-2011 homes with suitable attic and wall insulation. Replacement windows must meet the specified performance standard; a post-works BER is required.

External doors

€800 per door

Maximum two doors (€1,600). You may apply for doors, windows or both, subject to the insulation and performance criteria.

Plan the right system

Heating & heat pumps

Heat-pump systems

Up to €12,500*

The established bundle comprises up to €6,500 for the heat pump, €2,000 for required heating-distribution upgrades and a €4,000 renewable heat bonus. Individual conditions and dwelling type apply.

Heating controls

€700

For eligible pre-2011 homes. This supports improved controls for an existing heating system and cannot be claimed alongside, or after, a heat-pump-system grant.

Technical assessment

€200 grant

SEAI offers support for an eligible heat-loss technical assessment in conjunction with a heat-pump installation grant. Our existing BER customers can instead use our no-additional-cost assessment offer below.

Generate & store energy

Solar & batteries

Solar electricity (PV)

Up to €1,800

€700 per kWp for the first 2kWp, plus €200 per additional kWp up to 4kWp. The standard maximum remains €1,800 in 2026.

Solar water heating

€1,200

Solar thermal support for domestic hot water. This is a separate technology and grant from electricity-generating solar PV.

Home battery storage

€600

Flat-rate support for eligible systems of at least 5kWh. Announced as part of the October package; confirm the scheme’s application arrangements before ordering.

*Eligible new boiler-scrappage support can bring the maximum heat-pump package to €14,500. This is not available for every home or system. Existing heat-pump replacements have different limits. Figures are grant supports, not installation prices.

Support for different circumstances

Other help to consider.

Post-works BER

€50 contribution

Certain eligible SEAI-funded works qualify for a contribution towards the post-works BER. We help with the assessment documents and Declaration of Works.

Warmer Homes Scheme

Fully funded upgrades

For qualifying owner-occupiers on specified welfare payments, generally in pre-2006 homes. A survey determines suitable works. SEAI arranges the scheme’s BER assessments, so a separately paid BER is not needed to apply.

Whole-home upgrades

A coordinated package

The National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme has a separate managed route and supports for measures such as floor insulation, ventilation and airtightness. We can provide independent BER advice as you consider the scope of your project.

Enhanced and specialist supports

The October package also includes targeted solar-and-battery support of up to €9,000 for qualifying households, expanded medically vulnerable support and measures for eligible rental homes. Eligibility and launch arrangements differ; check the terms for your circumstances.

Keep your project on track.

  1. Speak with us early. We can help identify what your BER and supporting documents need to show.
  2. Get approval before starting. Check the conditions, use an appropriately registered contractor and obtain the required SEAI grant offer before works begin.
  3. Keep the evidence. Gather specifications, invoices and installer records as work progresses. We help you obtain missing documents.
  4. Arrange the post-works BER. Where required, we assess completed improvements and assist with the BER and DOW paperwork.

The applicable SEAI scheme and grant offer determine eligibility, deadlines and payment. The solar age threshold is changing under the October announcement; confirm the applicable rules before committing. Grant amounts cannot simply be added together across different routes.
